Hardware Malfunction or Failure

Your computer’s hardware components individually heat up and cool down, depending on when they are used and when they aren’t. This means that, eventually, every single one of your hard drive’s components will fail. Some of your computer’s hardware parts may even fail at the same time.
For desktop computers and other laptop and tablet computers, you can easily replace the dysfunctional piece of hardware without having to build your whole computer from scratch.

Is your device not working?

If you’re using a Microsoft Windows operated computer, you can manage your hardware resources in the Device Manager. If your hardware is malfunctioning or won’t work, it doesn’t necessarily mean that your device is broken. Sometimes it just means that your device driver is in need of an installation or update. The simplest reason for a non-working device is because it hasn’t been enabled in the Device Manager yet.
It is important to note that your hardware device will not work if it is disabled or if the wrong driver for the device is installed.

Computer Processor Unit (CPU)

This part of the computer is also known as the processor or central processor. The Central Processing Unit or CPU is often referred to as the “brain” of the computer since it is the hardware part that handles all the instructions received from both hardware and software.

How do I install a CPU?

  • Before doing anything, make sure you take not of all the necessary information such as the processor’s model number, serial number, and specs. Also make sure to turn off and unplug your computer.
  • If your computer already has a CPU previously installed, you should remove it first before a new processor can be added.
    • If the existing processor is a socket processor and has an attached heat sink, you must first remove the heat sink before you can remove the processor.
      • If the processor is mounted to a ZIF socket, locate the small arm (metal bar) on one of the sides of the processor. Moving it from a horizontal to a vertical position will release the processor.
      • If the processor is mounted to a LIF socket, you need a chip remove tool to remove it. Most new processors usually come with this tool. Place the tool between the processor and the socket. Gently work the processor out of the socket and be careful not to bind or break any of the pins.
    • If the processor has a slot instead of a socket, you do not have to remove the heat sink. Just locate the two tabs on either side of the processor and move them to the outward position. You should then be able to remove the processor by pulling it out vertically.
